AKC Note: Shandong Ruyi is planning a $460 million investment to put cotton spinning into an existing plant in Forrest City, Arkansas. The article advises that they plan to spin more than 200,000 tons of Arkansas cotton per year and employ up to 800 people. The Chairman of the company states that the Ruyi Group is the largest textile manufacturer in China and this is their first venture into US manufacturing. The US offers low cost cotton (compared to international prices), low cost and reliable energy, generous state incentives and an increasing domestic and regional supply chain into finished goods as well as an administration that is very pro US manufacturing. No doubt all these factors played into the decision to invest in Arkansas. We reported in Q4 2016 that Suzhou Tianyuan Garments Company, a Chinese manufacturer of casual apparel and sportswear and a big supplier to Adidas, signed an agreement with the State of Arkansas to invest $20 million in Little Rock and create 400 jobs..
